Kerala PSC has invited applications from Matriculates for the Village Extension Officer(VEO) positions. The Village Extension Officer(VEO) GramaSevika(n) recruitment process is a district-wise selection and the examination is scheduled in different slots for different districts. The exams are scheduled for October 2019 and November 2019. The VEO Exam Pattern and syllabus would be similar to that of LGS recruitment. The questions will be of Matriculation standard and the question language will be Malayalam(except for the English section). The VEO job profile extends between both fieldwork and clerical work.
Village Extension Officer(VEO): Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The pay scale of a Village Extension Officer(VEO) is in between Rs 20,000 – Rs 45,800/-.
- The applicants who passed SSLC/Matriculation examination with 40% or above are eligible.
- Age criteria for the application are 19 years to 36 years (01/01/1982 to 01/01/1999) for the general category. Age relaxations are for OBC and SC/ST applicants as per the government norms are applicable.

- Exam Duration – 01 hours 15 Minutes (75 Minutes)
- Simple Arithmetic and Mental Ability – 20 MARKS
- English – 10 Marks
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs – 50 Marks
- Malayalam – 10 Marks

VEO Job Profile
The Village Extension Officer(VEO) or the Grama Sevika(n) is the bridge between the government and the rural people. The VEO is the designated officer to make sure that the different government schemes, funds, etc are reaching at the right hands. He/She is responsible to select the beneficiary list for the government schemes. The Village Extension Officer is the supervisor of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme(MGNRE). The VEO’s should visit the fields to audit the work progresses under the MGNRE scheme. The VEO post is not a solely clerical one, fieldwork and interactions with the citizens are a part of their day-day work. They can act as an interceptor for the Panchayat/Local Administration for the citizen’s needs and towards the citizen’s regarding the policies. The VEO job profile includes helping the citizens to get access to different government schemes and make them aware of the same.
The Village Extension Officer(VEO) should work harmoniously with the local administration. He/She should make sure to include the right ones in any scheme, whether its a panchayat sponsored or the state-sponsored. Every selected candidate shall undergo training for a period of six months in one of the Extension Training Centres in the state before appointment to the post. The VEO can further grow in their career as the Block Panchayat Secretary and to the Development Officer as their service years grow. The VEO’s are working in the grass-root level towards the upliftment of the public through the government schemes. The VEO’s should have a service-oriented mindset since their job demands it.
